Observation on the determination of Ca, Mg in milk

Abstract
The most difficult point in the determination of Ca, Mg in milk is the removing of phosphate ion. Robert Jenness has applied the ion exchange resin as a removing agent of phosphate ion. Instead of using the routine way of precipitating with ammonium molybdate or Robert jennes process we have tried another method using the mixture of N-butanol and Chloroform as a extracting solvent before titration. As we titrated Ca, Mg with EDTA solution after having removed the phosphate ion by extracting With the above solvent, we have observed that the result is almost same with that of Robert Jenness. This extracting method in the determination of Ca, Mg in%milk is as well convenient and correct one as the other methods.
